Community Medical Services, formerly known as the Casa Grande homeless shelter, is a transitional living facility for people who are on the brink of losing their homes. It provides wraparound services to individuals facing an uncertain future due to an unexpected crisis. The transitional programs provide wraparound services to the clients under the assumption that they are already at the end of their long-term assistance programs. However, upon entering the services, clients are still expected to participate in the regular transitional program.
The transitional living home provides the essential services such as food, clothing, shelter and case management to the clients until they find a permanent place to live. The transitional living homes serves as an alternative to hotels, psychiatric facilities and nursing homes. The services of a transition home should be considered a last resort for people in the process of moving into an assisted living or nursing home. The transitional living home is not meant for those who have stable jobs and families, but only for the individuals who are in need of extra income and are not able to find other means to support themselves.
A transitional living facility is also called a halfway house, transition home, respite center, or respite services. These houses are more akin to military housing than a traditional family residence. Since these houses provide services to the individuals even while they are waiting for their supportive housing program to begin, the clients in this program are referred to as the transitional population. Casa Grande Services, Incorporated serves the transitional population of clients with a wide range of services such as case management, social activities and programs, legal assistance and referral to local agencies. Casa Grande Services, Inc. services have a licensed intake representative who has the authority to refer individuals to the appropriate transitional agency.
