Information about Sober Living in Philadelphia Pennsylvania

The phrase “sober living” can refer to a wide variety of locations and settings, but for our purposes it means transitional living facilities. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines transitional housing as residential real estate that offers supportive services to help residents transition from their primary residence to a more stable, sometimes higher-income setting. For many individuals and families who find themselves at the end of their tether in an abusive environment, or who are simply looking for a place to call home after a long period of incarceration, transitional housing can be the perfect solution. This type of environment can provide safe shelter, security, and assistance with employment and other necessary daily needs. A key benefit of transitional housing is its focus on improving the individual’s ability to adapt to life outside the correctional facility. Many of these homes offer various types of therapeutic and emotional assistance, in addition to access to healthcare and substance abuse treatment. One way that you may be able to find a local transitional living facility is through a prison treatment program. A number of Pennsylvania state prison programs offer programs that can help individuals and families recover from addiction, including drug abuse and addiction recovery. There are also a number of halfway houses throughout the state that can help this transition out of prison, as well as those struggling to overcome serious financial issues. For example, halfway houses in Philadelphia and neighboring areas like West Chester and Springfield offer residential drug rehab programs in addition to residential therapy and addiction treatment. The goal of the halfway house programs is to help inmates and families re-enter the real world without the added stress and trauma of being incarcerated. Another great resource for those seeking the safety and support of transitional living is the Greater Philadelphia homeless prevention initiative. The goal of this non-profit agency is to end chronic and seasonal homelessness among people in the Philadelphia area by providing low-cost solutions to prevent people from becoming trapped in the cycle of addiction. The organization partners with the community to offer quality solutions and empower the citizens of the tri-state area to take action against substance abuse. If you are struggling to get off of the streets, you may need to consider going into one of the many programs that are available throughout the city. If you are looking for permanent housing, there are a number of HUD-approved PA foreclosure properties that are waiting for individuals and families.
