Mary’s Shelter is a transitional living home, a non-profit organisation that houses young people with severe disabilities. It is located at Crestview Terrace off Highway 16 east of Panama City, Alabama. This is a very busy and popular place to live, especially for those who are in need of an affordable, assisted living facility with various services and amenities to assist the young people, and especially vulnerable seniors, in a loving, safe environment. If you are looking for a permanent, or short term, residence, but don’t want to have to leave your home or family behind, Mary’s shelter is perfect for you. The transitional living home provides housing for those with serious disabilities or other serious problems, that need specialized assistance to get out and experience the world.
Mary’s Shelter also offers a transitional living program, which enables residents to go through a short program, called the Sober Living Homes program, while receiving full house support and care. The Sober Living Homes program is available from approximately May through October, depending on the weather. During this time, residents are assigned to a volunteer team that assists them with their daily needs, including housekeeping, meals, transportation and other assistance they may require. Once the Sober Living Homes program is completed, residents are eligible for independent living support services from a licensed, trained and certified Alzheimer’s care specialist.
The transition of someone who has lived with a mental disability for many years, is not always easy. They will learn new behaviors and skills, and sometimes lose the friends they have made along the way. But, if you would like to try out living independently, or maybe just move to another area of Gulf coast of Alabama, Mary’s Shelter offers housing and support services. Mary’s does not offer boarding homes or group homes, but what they do offer is a warm and caring atmosphere for seniors that are just trying to find themselves again.
